Our accessibility approach
We aim for WCAG 2.2 Level AA. This is an accessibility target, not a certification or a claim of complete conformance. We work to make resource information usable with different devices, keyboards and assistive technologies.
The site uses descriptive headings and links, visible keyboard focus, a skip-to-content link, labelled form fields and layouts that adapt to narrow screens. Core reading, directory links and the ZIP search work without JavaScript.
Keyboard and reading controls
Use Tab and Shift+Tab to move between controls. Enter opens links and activates buttons. Resource cards include an Eligibility, privacy & service details control that can be opened and closed with Enter or Space. Use the labelled category list and ZIP field to search; invalid or missing entries are reported by your browser.
The first link skips the header and moves to the main content. Browser zoom and text settings can make the content larger. There is no account or story submission required to read these pages.
Leaving the website
The Leave this site link floats at the bottom of the screen and opens Google in the same tab. It does not erase earlier history, prevent device monitoring or remove phone or network records. With JavaScript enabled it replaces the current page in this tab’s history; without JavaScript it works as an ordinary link.
Testing and known limits
We use automated checks and manual keyboard and layout reviews. Automated checks cannot establish accessibility for every person or assistive technology. Screen-reader testing so far has been limited; we do not claim comprehensive testing across screen readers.
Independent provider websites, ZIP-search directories, phone systems and messaging apps have their own accessibility features. External sites may require additional steps or show security checks. Call and text links require a compatible device or app; provider website links offer another route. We cannot guarantee accommodations or service availability at a listed provider.
Report a barrier or request another format
Email hello@untilshessafe.org for an accessibility issue or a request for website information in another format. Emily Runnels is responsible for reviewing these administrative requests. Include the page, what you were trying to do and the barrier you encountered. You may include your browser or assistive technology if that helps, but do not send medical records, identity documents or survivor case details.
We will review the request and explain available options; we cannot guarantee that every requested format or change is available. The mailbox is not an emergency or crisis-response service. If a provider’s site is inaccessible, its alternative phone or contact options may help.
